Therapist Maureen McCarthy-Koth
Hello, Iām Maureen.
If I were to describe myself, these things, in no particular order, would be primary: I am a therapist who is also an artist, a dreamer, a mother, a widow, a writer, a listener, and a seeker.
I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Washington. I came to the work of therapy and coaching later in life. The catalyst for change was a young woman I mentored. We wandered through the struggles she experienced, her questions about faith and God, her personal struggles, and her relationships with friends and family. Because of her willingness to share her life with me and the impact of that relationship, I realized the direction of my life had changed. I completed my Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 2006. My experience over the years has included 11 years on the teaching staff of The Seattle School, mental health treatment centers, a transitional housing facility, and my own private practice. Each place asked me to search deeply into what mattered to me as a person and a therapist and as a result, I believe firmly is the connection between heart, mind, and soul. The art of healing requires that we know what we feel, what we think, and what creates desire and hope inside of us.
In addition, I believe that therapy is a relational art that helps to highlight areas where old or new wounds and stories have emerged. Our work together then invites a decision as to what beliefs or themes are important to hold onto and what could be discarded or revised.
I hope to be able to offer a space where you might be able to create a new story for yourself that brings the light and spirit of hope.
My fee is $185 a session.
